Don't let the bed bugs bite. This playful admonition by parents to their children may as we
might say have legs. Bed bugs were a problem in our past history both affected by industrialization
and rapid urbanization. Immigration also played an integral part as people brought these visitors
with them as they came and settled in our cities. With the advent of DDT the problem was pretty
much solved.. DDT has been long gone but the forces of urbanization have persisted.
* Bed bus are flat, light tan to brown and oval shape until after they bite; then they swell and become reddish in appearance.
* The adult is approximately 3/16 of an inch, which is approximately the size of an apple seed.
* These nocturnal creatures hide in cracks and crevices during the day. They also live in mattresses box springs, cracks and hollow areas such as hollow posts and drapes. *Blood is a bed bugs only source of food.
* Bed bugs are not known to cause disease, but they do bite and can leave bloody
welts on the victims skin.
