Bald Faced Hornet

The bald or white faced hornet is common in northeastern
Ohio. The size is about 1" long with a bluish black body
with white markings on it's face, thorax, and abdomen.

Bald-faced hornets build what is commonly referred to as a
football shaped nest. The most common area that they build is
in trees. However, Professional Exterminating has found them
in bushes, evergreens, lightposts, and at the corners of
houses and buildings.

Hornets will vigorously defend their nest. They are very
persistent and can rebuild a nest. The area nearby the nest
should also be treated professionally. This diffferentiates
them from yellow jackets.

Bald-faced hornets are on the upswing in northeastern Ohio.

Do not try to remove nest with water hose.
Do not set fire to the nest-trees and houses are flammable.
Do not poke or strike nest with object.

Hornets and yellow jackets should only be treated by a
trained professional.
